Suburban animal hospital heavily damaged by severe storms

Tense moments unfolded at an Orland Park veterinary hospital as severe storms slammed parts of the Chicago area Tuesday afternoon. Staff at Midwest Animal Hospital acted quickly to get dozens of dogs to safety when winds exceeding 70 miles per hour began ripping off parts of the roof. Footage from the scene showed damaged gutters, debris on the ground and pieces of wood hanging from dog kennels. Video also showed a portion of an overhang that appeared to have been torn off by the storm. The damage led to leaks and flooding in the pet daycare area. Staff reported both the animals and the workers remained quiet and frightened until the storm passed. The hospital said on Facebook its roof and daycare facility sustained significant damage and will require “extensive” repairs. As a result, its daycare service will be temporarily affected.
