A Northampton County caregiver was arrested and charged with neglect following the death of a woman who was under her care, according to Attorney General Dave Sunday. Susan Edwards, 59, was charged with two felony counts of neglect of a care-dependent person, causing serious bodily injury or death and endangering the welfare of a care-dependent person following the death of a 51-year-old woman with Down syndrome in October 2023. According to prosecutors, an investigation by the Office of Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Section revealed that Edwards left the victim in the care of another resident with an intellectual or developmental disability on the day she died. Officials said the victim died from septic complications from untreated pressure ulcers.
