Mayor Brandon Johnson wants City Council to impose a moratorium on data centers There are currently 39 data centers within Chicago city limits, my Sun-Times colleagues Fran Spielman and Abby Miller report. Data centers have drawn fire in Chicago and across the country because of their potential to negatively affect the environment, drain water supplies and drive up energy costs. Mayor Brandon Johnson cited all of those potential negatives as he signed an executive order today at Northerly Island, the nature park that once housed the lakefront airport known as Meigs Field.
