Consumer Protection Commission Conducted 14,535 Inspections During Dual Price-Display Period, Imposes Fines for EUR 1.31 Mln

The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) conducted a total of 14,535 inspections during the one-year period in which prices were required to be displayed simultaneously in Bulgarian lev and euro, CPC Chairman Aleksandar Kolyachev said here Thursday. The dual price-display period ended on August 8. A total of 1,120 acts establishing administrative violations were issued, while nearly 700 penalty decrees have been issued. The sanctions imposed amount to EUR 1.31 million, Kolyachev said at a joint news conference with the National Revenue Agency (NRA). Kolyachev said the CPC's inspections covered all major sectors, including food and non-food retail, pharmacies, fuel stations, services, tourist establishments, restaurants and online commerce. The inspections were carried out following complaints and reports, as part of planned campaigns, and in cooperation with other regulatory authorities, most frequently the NRA.
