Moldovan Students Gain Hands-On Experience at Archaeological Site in Bulgaria's Byala

Fourteen students from the Taraclia branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse are taking part in a three-week archaeological field practice at the St Athanasius Cape site near Byala, Varna Region. The students are participating in excavations under the guidance of history lecturer and assistant at the Taraclia branch Nikolay Mostovoy. The students are working alongside Valeri Yotov, the scientific director of the excavations and former long-serving director of the Varna Archaeological Museum. He told BTA that the site, located about 50 km south of Varna, has been the focus of cooperation with Moldovan specialists and students for more than a decade. The joint work began in 2010, with a break during the COVID-19 pandemic, initially involving the Higher School of Anthropology in Chisinau and the Grigory Tsamblak Bulgarian-Moldovan University in Taraclia, which is now a branch of the University of Ruse.
