Save A Lot supermarkets are vital for food access in many of the communities they serve, providing an array of discounted goods in low-income, urban, and rural areas where grocery stores might otherwise be scarce. But Save A Lot locations have been disappearing at an unsettling rate, with store closures impacting dozens of communities across at least 13 states this year alone, a Fast Company review has found. Some states, including Florida, Ohio, and New York, have seen multiple Save A Lot locations shutter in 2026. While some of these closures have been well publicized, such as the closure of several Chicago-based stores owned by grocer Yellow Banana—which followed the death of Yellow Banana’s CEO in April—others have flown relatively under the radar outside of localized chatter on social media. Reached for comment by Fast Company , a Save A Lot spokesperson characterized the closures as routine. “Store closures and re-openings occur regularly in the grocery industry,” Save A Lot said
