Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre Releases 32 Rescued Storks in Stara Zagora

A total of 32 white storks raised and treated at the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora have been released into the wild after months of care, the organization said on Monday. The release, which was the centre’s first large group of storks released in 2026, involved children and parents taking part in the “Young Nature Lover – Summer 2026” initiative, volunteers from the BARBATUS Student Environmental Club at Trakia University and the rescue centre’s team. Before release, the storks had arrived at the centre from across Bulgaria after being orphaned, falling from nests, becoming exhausted or injured, or being affected by emergencies. The birds were then examined, dewormed and fitted with metal rings from the Bulgarian Ornithological Centre. The next release of 17 storks is scheduled for August 18.
