After a fire broke out near the village of Visoka Mogila on Saturday, Senior Commissioner Svetoslav Georgiev, head of the Kyustendil Fire Safety and Civil Protection Regional Directorate, told a press briefing on Sunday that the situation regarding the fire is calmer for the time being. He emphasized that there is no immediate danger to people’s property. Georgiev reported that the firefighters will use heavy machinery to try to create a firebreak along an existing gully in order to separate the two forest areas, one of which is currently on fire. He added that four teams from the fire service and the state forestry service, along with two teams of volunteers, will be working on the ground on Sunday. Petko Angelov, head of the Forest Protection department at the Southwestern State-Owned Enterprise, reported that around 120 hectares have been affected, of which 30 are woodland. He added that further resources from the enterprise will be deployed if necessary.
