Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova plans to contact North Macedonia's government and President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova on Monday to raise the issue of necessary medical treatment for Iva Mihailova, a Bulgarian in North Macedonia who is charged with a serious traffic offence and was among those injured in the relevant road accident in October 2025. Iotova broke the news to journalists in the Black Sea city of Varna on Sunday. On August 7, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that specialized medical care is necessary to prevent the real risk of permanent injuries with irreversible consequences for Mihailova's right to a dignified life. Bulgaria is one of few countries where adequate care is available for the spinal injuries of Mihailova, who also holds Bulgarian citizenship.
