Wholesale prices for staple food products, fruit and vegetables in Bulgaria moved in different directions in the week ending on August 7, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. The wholesale food market index fell by 0.21% to 2.331 points, compared with 2.336 points a week earlier. The index's base level of 1.000 points dates back to 2005. Among vegetables, the average wholesale price of green lettuce recorded the biggest weekly increase, rising by 16.35% to EUR 0.74 per kiloggamme. Cucumber prices also increased, by 9.48% to EUR 1.27/kg, while onions rose by 6.53% to EUR 0.62/kg and potatoes by 2.94% to EUR 0.63/kg. At the other end of the scale, cabbage saw the biggest price drop, falling by 9.56% to EUR 0.53/kg. Tomato prices also declined, by 7.06% to EUR 1.37/kg, while carrots fell by 5.24% to EUR 0.76/kg and courgettes by 2.21% to EUR 0.62/kg.
