The timely disbursement of funding is a major issue in the cultural sector, Culture Minister Evtim Miloshev said on Bulgarian National Television Friday morning. He said this was a bigger problem than the overall amount of funding allocated to culture. "Many people working in the cultural sector say that, regardless of whether the funding is large or small, what matters is that it arrives on time," the Minister said. Asked when funding for culture could reach 1% of GDP, Miloshev said this was a realistic target and the government programme includes a gradual increase in funding for culture, he noted. Miloshev also highlighted capital expenditure as a major challenge for the cultural sector, including the renovation of cultural venues, theatres, libraries, galleries and storage facilities.
