New details on arrest in cold case murder of man found in Schuylkill River

A new court document reveals what led to the arrest in the murder of a Philadelphia man more than a decade after his body was found in the Schuylkill River. On Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, Melanie Morat, 30, was charged in the murder of Vito Maglio. The criminal complaint, obtained by NBC10 on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, includes a detailed timeline on the 12-year investigation into Maglio’s disappearance and murder, as well as what led to Morat’s arrest. On Dec. 15, 2014, around 10:50 a.m., Philadelphia police responded to the 5800 block of North Beechwood Street for a report of a missing person. When they arrived, police met with a woman who reported that her husband, Vito Maglio, had left their home around 6 p.m. the previous night to go out to dinner but never returned.
