South End restaurant gets two-day license suspension - for underage drinkers, not the bartender on the bar pouring wine down other patrons' throats

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday ordered Barcelona, 525 Tremont St. in the South End, to give up its liquor license for two days because of the seven underage drinkers two BPD licensing detectives found at tables there during a spot inspection in May. The board actually voted for a three-day suspension, but held one day in abeyance for a year. Board members acknowledged the Spanish eatery fired the server who brought over drinks for a table of six people under 21 and had bought new license scanners and decided to card more people than before. But that many underage drinkers at one time warranted punishment, board members said, adding servers need to be better trained in ferreting out youthful drinkers trying to put one over on them.
