In a statement released by the Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) on Sunday, the institution said that media reports claiming that BNAO President Dimitar Glavchev may be in a potential conflict of interest in connection with audits commissioned by the National Assembly and carried out by the BNAO are speculative and not based on legally established facts. A conflict of interest can be established solely through administrative and procedural channels, while anything else is mere insinuation, the BNAO added. The statement noted that any person holding public office may recuse themselves and thereby avoid any presumption of a conflict of interest.
