Oil and gas extraction in the Black Sea is not a good idea, Greenpeace Bulgaria Campaigns Manager Desislava Mikova said on Friday. Greenpeace's Arctic Sunrise icebreaker arrived in Varna for a two-day port call as part of the organization's campaign to protect oceans, the climate and vulnerable marine ecosystems, mottoed "A Living Black Sea Without Oil and Gas". The Arctic Sunrise, part of the Greenpeace fleet since 1995, has travelled around the world, from the Arctic to Antarctica and from the Amazon to the African coast, witnessing both the planet's remarkable biodiversity and the devastating effects of the climate crisis and destructive extractive practices, Mikova said. This year, the vessel is in the Black Sea in support of the campaign to stop oil and gas extraction in its waters, she added.
