A preliminary 4.1 magnitude earthquake followed by a preliminary 4.5 magnitude struck in Northern California, according to the United States Geological Survey . The first quake, with preliminary magnitude of 4.1, hit at 3:21 p.m. and was centered 19.26 miles northwest of Covelo, the USGS said. According to the USGS, a second earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5, hit a minute later and was centered in the same area. This is a developing story.
