National League owner praised for his ‘cojones’ after rejecting seven-figure record bid for star

Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter has been praised for turning down a non-league £1million bid for star man Abdul Abdulmalik. Swedish side Djurgardens have tabled two bids for the best player outside the EFL – the second of which matched the seven-figure fee Fleetwood received from Leicester for Jamie Vardy in 2011. Abdulmalik is regarded as the top prospect in English non-league football Getty Abdulmalik, who came through the academy ranks at Championship club Millwall, only signed for the Hertfordshire club in July 2024. The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in the fifth tier last season as Boreham Wood narrowly missed out on promotion. Abdulmalik scored 18 goals and provided ten assists across 56 games last season to help The Wood to the National League play-off final.
