Low Water Levels Hamper Shipping on Danube, There Are No New Stranded Vessels

Shipping in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River has not been suspended, but only a limited number of vessels continue to operate due to restrictions caused by low water levels, the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River (EAEMDR) said. As of August 5, the water level at Ruse has been measured at 97 centimeters below the reference zero level, marking a further drop of 3 centimeters over the past 24 hours. On Tuesday, EAEMDR Executive Director Ivelin Zanev reported that many convoys are still waiting to pass through the river's most critical sections. Restrictions on the maximum draft of vessels remain in effect. In the areas around Batin Island and Belene Island, the maximum permitted draft is 160 centimeters. In the rest of the Bulgarian section of the Danube maintained by the agency, the required navigable depth must not be less than 180 centimeters.
