Part of the family traveled with Officer Rebecca De Paula to the Dominican Republic, but News 4 managed to speak with Elena Santana, who was like a second mother to her. In fact, the officer left her dog, Bambi, with her before leaving, telling her it would only be for two weeks. “It feels like a light went out,” said the officer’s friend. “I’m devastated; I still have to sleep with medication; I can’t.” De Paula died this weekend in the Dominican Republic after undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure at a clinic in Santo Domingo.
