Following the death of the New York City police officer in the Dominican Republic during a cosmetic procedure, Rebecca De Paula’s family members are speaking about the difficult time they are going through. Part of the family traveled with Officer Rebecca De Paula to the Dominican Republic, but News 4 managed to speak with Elena Santana, who was like a second mother to her. In fact, the officer left her dog, Bambi, with her before leaving, telling her it would only be for two weeks. “It feels like a light went out,” said the officer’s friend. “I’m devastated; I still have to sleep with medication; I can’t.” De Paula died this weekend in the Dominican Republic after undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure at a clinic in Santo Domingo. The 31-year-old officer reportedly contracted a bacterial infection after the cosmetic surgery, according to her family. “I knew she was going to the Dominican Republic, but I didn’t know she was going to have that procedure,” Santana told News 4.
