Bulgaria recorded the third-highest annual increase in retail trade volume among EU Member States in June 2026, at 7.1%, behind Luxembourg and Sweden, according to first estimates released by Eurostat on Thursday. In May, Bulgaria had also ranked joint third with Sweden, both recording annual growth of 7.9%. Luxembourg led with 9.4%, followed by Cyprus with 8.4%. Month on month, Bulgaria’s seasonally adjusted retail trade volume rose by 0.5% in June, after a 0.7% increase in May and a 1% decline in April. Across the EU, seasonally adjusted retail trade volume fell by 0.1% in June from May, compared with a 0.3% decline in the euro area. In May, it had increased by 0.6% in the EU and by 0.4% in the euro area. Year on year, the calendar-adjusted retail sales index rose by 1.2% in the EU and by 0.7% in the euro area.
