Just more than two months after taking office, Denton City Councilman Jordan Villarreal shared that he will resign from his seat due to health issues. Villarreal did not go into detail about his medical condition when he shared the news on Thursday in a post on his Facebook page , but wrote that he made the choice “after careful consideration.” “This decision has not come lightly,” he wrote. “Serving the residents of Denton has been a profound honor.” Villarreal said he will formally step down on Sept. 1. He made the announcement ahead of that date to allow time for the city to organize a special election for his seat, which will be held at the same time as the November general election. Villarreal won a special election in May and was sworn in on May 12.
