IN THE GARDEN: ‘Christmas’ comes early thanks to blooming cactus

DEAR JANET: I received a so-called Christmas cactus as a holiday gift a little over two years ago... By the number of buds on it, it will probably still be blooming in early August. I am baffled! Do I have some other variety than a traditional Christmas cactus? Or are there other factors that would make such a cactus bloom out of character?
