Letter: Setting the record straight on Basher parking

In a recent opinion on a proposed ordinance that would create an advisory board for the Chugach Access Service Area, Barbara Hood stated, “For starters, at no time was a parking lot with a capacity of 80 to 100 cars under consideration for the Basher Trailhead; the initial recommendation by the municipal design team was for a 60-car lot.” [ Related opinion : There is nothing fair about proposed changes to the Chugach Access Service Area ] This was in response to my assertion in an opinion authored by me, in which I stated, “Early design work for Basher, one of the busiest gateways to the park and a project that voters have now funded twice, assessed a need for 80 to 100 parking spots. For reference, this is about the size of the parking lot at the University Lake dog park and far smaller than the popular Glen Alps parking lot.” I would kindly direct Ms. Hood to the project’s actual comment-and-response document, in which the project team states, “Multiple methods were used to estimate
