Defence Minister Stoyanov: No MiG-29 Talks with Poland Yet

Bulgaria has not opened talks with Poland on acquiring MiG-29 fighter jets because Warsaw has not responded to its inquiry, Minister of Defence Dimitar Stoyanov told Parliament on Friday. He was answering a question from Vazrazhdane MP Ivelin Parvanov during Question Time. Parvanov asked what price Poland was seeking for the transfer of its MiG-29 aircraft to Bulgaria and when they could be delivered. Parvanov cited an interview in which Polish Deputy Defence Minister Pawel Zalewski said the MiG-29 aircraft originally earmarked for Ukraine would not be transferred to the country. Parvanov said Zalewski had also indicated that talks were under way with a NATO member seeking to acquire the Polish MiG-29 fighters and that publicly available information suggested the country was Bulgaria.
