Interior Minister Demerdzhiev Says Slow Prosecution Actions Amount to Denial of Justice

The slow actions of the Bulgarian prosecuting magistracy amount to a direct denial of justice, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said, commenting on the case from earlier this month, when the police arrested employees of the Burgas Water and Sewerage Company, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday. In early July, two officials from the Burgas Water and Sewerage Company - Director Tsvetan Mirchev and investor control officer Ilcho Boev - were arrested during a specialized operation by Bulgaria’s General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime on charges of intentional mismanagement. According to Demerdzhiev, there is evidence that the state has suffered damages amounting to millions of euros. The Minister added that the investigation had reached the names of individuals directly involved in the country's political life, as well as links giving rise to well-founded suspicions of a scheme to channel money into illicit party funds.
