DEA warns Lollapalooza-goers that pills sold as Molly, Ecstasy may be ‘pure meth'

For anyone heading to Lollapalooza this weekend, the Drug Enforcement Administration is warning not to take any pills not prescribed by a doctor. “This isn’t Bikini Bottom. The danger is real,” the DEA wrote on X, along with a picture of a pill showing the character SpongeBob. The agency warned that some MDMA pills sold as ecstasy or molly, even cartoon-themed pills, are actually “pure meth.” “You’ll see cartoon characters imprinted on some of these pills. That’s often an appeal to the younger consumer base, the kind of younger base that we will see this weekend at Grant Park in downtown Chicago,” said Luis Agostini, the public information officer for the DEA Chicago Field Division. The Chicago field division also shared photos of a makeshift meth pill pressing operation that agents uncovered in Indiana this year.
