‘Seven years is enough’: Protesters light fires at Lebanese banks over frozen savings

Seven years after the onset of the worst financial crisis in Lebanon 's history, depositors returned to the streets of Beirut on Tuesday to protest against the continued freezing of their savings amid deteriorating economic conditions. Demonstrators gathered outside three banks in the Lebanese capital, where they lit fires and smashed glass doors, expressing anger after years of being denied full access to their deposits. The protest was organised by depositors' groups, who said their message to Lebanon's government and bank executives was “seven years of frozen deposits is more than enough”. Many Lebanese continue to struggle with the deep financial crisis compounded by the country's recent conflicts.
